Camping at Taboose Creek is a quick alternative to any of the numerous campgrounds west of Big Pine and Bishop. It’s off highway 395 just a few miles south of Big Pine at around 4,000 feet.

It’s a great place to stay in the winter months since there aren’t many other campers around. There are 16 sites listed at $14 each, all located within a few seconds walk of the creek. The pay station has a solar panel on top and accepts credit cards, as opposed to the Forest Service campgrounds that take cash.

Tent campers beware – the spring and summer months can be rough. Hungry mosquitoes come out in full force once the sun goes down, and they’re an absolute menace. If you can avoid that, then Taboose Creek is a great campground just far enough off highway 395 to get some peace and quiet.
